| Youth Fellowship "Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in love, in faith and in purity" - 1 Timothy 4:12
Who are we?
The Egmore Wesley Youth Fellowship comprises students from both school and college, working young adults, single and newly married couples, who join together at least twice a week and encourage one another, to grow in the Lord. With the support of the Church, we enjoy a conducive environment for youngsters to nurture great friendships and establish a vibrant relationship with our living and loving God.
The Fellowship
We as young believers meet to have fellowship on Sunday morning at 10:30 am after the morning worship service for a time of singing, sharing, to hear God’s word and other activities. Our fellowship time is lively, loud and laughter filled as we explore God’s goodness to each one of us and as a fellowship. During sharing time we testify the work of God in the past week and also share our struggles and personal challenges. We eagerly look forward to the spirit-filled, application oriented messages that we hear every Sunday. We end the Sunday Fellowships with a time of announcements, offertory and a word of prayer.
Our Energy Source
On Friday evenings at 7 pm we meet either in the church parish hall or at one of the youth member’s residence for a time of intercessory prayer. We begin with a time of thanksgiving for the blessings received in the past week. Then we pray for the church, its activities and its different fellowships. We also pray for missionaries and their families, social concerns, weather, our nation and the world etc…Finally we pray for one another’s personal prayer requests and close by 8:30pm.
In Gratitude to GOD
It is a great joy and privilege for us to visit the sick and those who are unable to come to church. After the evening worship service on Sunday, we pick up some of the altar flowers, arrange it as a bouquet and make a visit to a ‘chosen’ church member. Since music cheers the aching soul, with guitar accompaniment we sing from the Come and Praise songbooks of our church. Then we read a portion from the scripture and pray for the particular person and his/her family. So far we have experienced that more than we being a blessing to the people we have visited, we have received blessings more than we can ask or imagine.
In Church
Our God desires us to seek His face and not just His hands and so every Sunday morning at 8 we lead in a time of Worship in church. From old well known choruses to hymns and contemporary songs we spend that time from 8:00 – 8:25 totally on just worshipping our Triune God. God has been ministering to people during this time and all Glory be to His name alone.
Every month, the third Sunday Evening Worship Service is celebrated as the Youth Service. We have the privilege of inviting other youth fellowships to actively participate with us in our service. The service has time slots for contemporary worship, skits, choreographies, special songs, testimonies etc. In the month of May we had the Youth of St Thomas Mount and they inspired one and all through their skit and medley of songs. We are thankful to God and the Church for the opportunity to use our talents to glorify God.
EWYF Band
We like to think of ourselves as a singing fellowship as music is an integral part of our lives. Every member of the fellowship is part of the worship band, which comprises guitars, be it lead, rhythm, bass; drums, keyboard, flute and of course singers! We love to lift our hands and voices to praise God through the gifts that he has blessed us with .
The Email Group - Our Virtual Network!!!
Several of our youth members may not be able to be part of our weekly activities due to commitments relating to work, studies etc. Yet, we are proud to keep in constant touch via an active and exciting youth email group - ewyf@yahoogroups.com. Here we send out communications, weekly updates, minutes of the fellowship, summary of the youth fellowship message, ideas, doubts, discussions, planning, testimonies, incidents, jokes, prayer requests, praise reports, photographs, and at times even edifying rebukes. So even if you are 5000 miles away on some other continent, you can still know what’s happening in EWYF.
Praise Report
Till last year we have been helping Mr Rajan (visually impaired) to study for his education, BA, MA and B.Ed. He would give us his study books and we would read them into blank cassettes. He has secured first class and has become a good friend of the youth. He has catalogued the cassettes so that others who are also visually impaired could use it.
Fun, Frolic in Faith
On most birthdays of youth members, we have surprise parties with home made cake and hand drawn cards and hearts full of love. Once in a while we go for a daylong retreat or a 3 day youth camp wherein we are guided by God provided resource people to spend quality time with God and with one another. At times we meet with youth fellowships from other churches for combined youth fellowship, a game of Cricket or other outdoor sports. We have also been invited to several other churches to sing, do a skit, give a message, testimony, do choreography or help out in the ministry.
Once in a lifetime
People, who have been part of the EWYF, have benefited from the strong ties of Christian friendship, encouragement of fellow believers, growing in the knowledge and practical understanding of God’s word and all the while having clean fun. It’s a unique privilege to be part of such a group of youngsters who are committed, concerned and caring. Here I would like to quote from one of our youth members who is now studying in the US "In the fellowship, I find a stronger family relationship because we are related by the blood of Christ”. |
