| Vacation Bible School Though
there were VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS in all the neighbouring Churches
of Egmore Wesley, the Lord laid a burden in our hearts to start
one in our own church in the year 2000. We had only 36 children
in the first year and the numbers steadily grew to 87 in 2004.
In 2005 – being the Centenary year of our Church – we were challenged
to touch 100 children in our VBS. We encouraged our congregation
to send their servant’s children and bring along their neighbour’s
kids who need not have to be our Church members. Mr& Mrs Paul
Perumal were the first ones to respond to our invitation and they
sent Saravanan, their servant’s son. In a few days Saravanan brought
with him 52 Hindu friends and neighbours from the nearby slum where
he himself lived. We were taken by surprise to see the response
and decided to start a Tamil section for the V.B.S. During the
Centenary year we touched 182 children. Thanks be to God who is
able to do much more than what we asked or thought or even dreamt.
In 2006 we had a good V.B.S. in English and Tamil simultaneously.
The 52 Children from the nearby slum regularly came all the 12
days. Mr. Johnson who is involved in the work among the villages
and slums, consented to help us in the Tamil section of the V.B.S.
He entertained the Children with his accordion, puppets and magic
shows.
We had a team of dedicated teachers and volunteers who faithfully
laboured to teach as well as lead the Children to know and accept
Jesus in their lives. The one day picnic and the Love feast enabled
us to spend more time with the children. The seeds we have sown
will surely help us to reap a rich harvest in the days to come.
We managed to put together a V.B.S. Orchestra and a V.B.S.Choir.
Hopefully in the future years these Children will be part of our
Church Choir and use their talents to build our Church.
We are confident our labour is not vain in the Lord.
